This past Sunday I went to the Rose Bowl Flea Market, which happens to be one of my favorite places of all time. (I wrote a post on it a while back, which can be found here.) This time around, I focused my energy in the clothing area, which is a whole entire day’s worth in itself. I was struck by all the amazing patterns on the vintage clothes. Since I couldn’t buy every single vintage dress that didn’t fit just to admire the fabric (and collect dust in my apartment), I did the second best thing – try to discreetly photograph everything without the vendors noticing. I tended to gravitate toward the florals (duh) and the geometric abstracts. It’s interesting – even though many of these prints were created 50 years ago, I could easily picture them on clothing today.
Current print obsession – Polka Dots! This simple little print is making a huge comeback this season. I’ve chosen to showcase the traditional black and white colorway, along with some standouts in Emerald (Welcome, New Pantone color of the year!) and one of my all time favorite colors, Coral. I’m in love with Shop Sweet Things’ DIY polka dot tray, and Target’s ridiculously cheap polka dot bikini top. Forever 21 is the MECCA of polka dots right now… I suggest you get yourself over there asap and relish in the polka dotty goodness. Happy almost Valentine’s Day! To get in the holiday spirit, I’ve decided to showcase a color combo that I’ve been obsessing over recently – pink and gold! They make a fantastic pair. Pink may look overly sweet, but when mixed with gold it’s a sophisticated little number. I’ve rounded up a few of my favorite little gifts for that special someone. And by special someone, I mean you! Lord knows your boyfriends don’t want any of this stuff. It’s time to welcome in a new year, and according to the Chinese Zodiac calendar, a new animal. And 2013’s animal of the year is…. the snake! What, did you expect me to say fox? No really, it’s the snake. But let’s be honest here, nobody likes snakes anyway. They’re slimy, and gross, and frankly, Not Cute. Cuteness factor is the most important criteria when judging animals by the way. So, in honor of the new year, I’m going to honor our friend the Fox, who is cute. And slightly mischievous and adorable.
These cunning little cuties have been popping up everywhere lately from fashion, jewelry, home decor and art. Which almost begs the question, Is the fox the new owl? He’s certainly cute, and, just like our owl, he’s a member of the beloved Woodland Critters genus. Let’s explore further:

Ok, I’m not talking mink coats here. The fox makes an amazing stylized icon and allover print for just about any article of clothing.
The theme of this contest is “Be a Hero”… it took me forever to come up with a concept! I finally decided to celebrate our everyday heroes, with a whimsical twist (I threw a superhero in there for good measure) :) The design is based loosely on vintage comic books combined with a playful twist on that little man icon that you see on bathroom doors (I don’t know what it’s called, but you know the one! ) ;)
There are so many heroes I wanted to include in the design – firefighter, doctor, etc… but I had to narrow it down due to the limited space!
but since I live in LA, I can’t. This is merely a fantasy I’ve had for years, probably from reading too many books that take place in quaint little farm towns in the 1800s. Probably better that it stays that way, since I’m sure getting up at 5 in the morning to milk cows and collect eggs isn’t as romantic as it seems. But that doesn’t mean I can’t have a little bit of farm life in my suburban apartment…

Ooooh I just love the rustic wood with it’s distressed and aged texture. I would love to sit down to a hearty breakfast of toast, eggs, and math. If it weren’t for the calculator in this pic, it just might be perfect!
This table can be styled so many ways. I’m loving it paired with a more modern chair, but just can’t decide! What do you guys think? :)

Hello friends! It’s been a while, but I’m still alive and making art! Slow and steady wins the race… or at least that’s my excuse for procrastinating so much. Anyway, it’s 3 in the morning here and I’m finally finished designing a bedroom for a contest that Emily Henderson is judging! Anyone who knows me knows I can’t pass this up! I’ve only passed by her like 5 times at the Rose Bowl flea market and have been too nervous to say hi. Next month, I’m doing it! Well anyway, here is my entry! I call it Bogo a go go… bohemian vibe with pinks, yellows, peacock blues, with some gold accents and rustic wood. And of course tons of patterns! You can never have enough patterns… wait who am I kidding? You totally can.. it’s a fine line, but I like to walk right up to the edge ;)
